Middle East Air Travel in Turmoil as Airlines Extend Cancellations Amid Regional Tensions

Travel plans across the Middle East face unprecedented disruption as major airlines extend flight cancellations through June due to ongoing regional tensions. Aviation authorities report widespread airspace closures affecting thousands of daily flights.

UAE-based carriers have implemented sweeping schedule changes, with Emirates announcing extended suspensions to key destinations including Amman and Beirut until late June 2026. The Dubai-based airline has also halted services to Tehran, Baghdad and Basra through the end of next month.

Budget carrier flydubai has taken similar measures, grounding flights to multiple Middle Eastern capitals through mid-June. Affected routes include services to Jordan, Lebanon and Syria until June 16, while connections to Iran, Iraq and Israel remain suspended until June 20.

The cascading effects have created logistical challenges across global aviation networks. Flight tracking data reveals approximately 3,000 daily flights require cancellation or rerouting due to current restrictions over Iran, Iraq and neighboring countries.

"Passengers holding tickets for affected routes should contact their booking agents immediately," advised an Emirates spokesperson. The airline confirmed it cannot accept travelers originating from or connecting through Dubai when their final destination involves currently restricted airspace.

Flydubai echoed similar guidance: "We sincerely regret the inconvenience but passenger safety remains our absolute priority." The carrier noted select routes may resume earlier if conditions improve sufficiently.

The ripple effects extend beyond UAE carriers. Sharjah’s Air Arabia reported numerous cancellations through mid-June while Etihad Airways maintains its suspension of Abu Dhabi-Tel Aviv service until late this month along with multiple rerouted European connections.

Aber Dhabi International Airport officials urged travelers verify flight statuses before departing for terminals: “Significant delays persist at AUH,” read a Sunday social media advisory from airport authorities. >
